The Tower of Orthanc
Our current film is "The Fellowship of the Ring: the Extended Edition". As we watch the film--I am going to keep a log or blog of interesting tidbits and information that can enhance your appreciation of this magnificent masterpiece of J.R.R. Tolkien and Peter Jackson. Since this is a wiki--most of the information is reproduced from other wikis--especially Wikipedia which has some great information on Tolkien's world and it is pretty accurate for the most part.
First things first: to your left is a development sketch of the Tower of Orthanc from the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online. We see Orthanc for the first time in the film when Gandalf the Grey visits it to consult with Saruman the Wise regarding his concerns of the finding of the One Ring of Power. Here is the master Tolkien's drawing of the Tower. It is interesting to note that Saruman's demise is depicted in the film version as taking place in Isengard. This is actually a departure from the book where Saruman dies in the Shire.
